As an update to my post a few weeks back about building our own community networks, I’m posting an excellent talk from DefCon, the famous hacker convention, about “How to be a Wifi Ninja”. It’s fairly technically advanced, so unless you’re already framilliar with some of this stuff, a lot might go over your head. If you know a thing or two about antennas and networking, though, this talk is chalk-full of useful points about what kind of equipment, settings and security to use. He mentions how to cross streets and go through trees, and which kinds of “professional” antennas lose more signal strength in their crappy wires than they gain.
